Welcome To HART (Humane Animal Resource Team, Inc.)
HART (Humane Animal Resource Team, Inc.) of McIntosh County, Georgia, is a small, grassroots, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to community spay/neuter assistance, humane education in responsible pet guardianship, and placing stray and abandoned animals in good homes. HART is the only animal advocacy group based in McIntosh County actively involved in rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing homeless companion animals. HART was founded in 1994 by Dr. Hannah deSoto and the late Grover C. Wood with this mission: “To create a humane and effective solution for the stray and abandoned companion animals of McIntosh County.” HART’s vision was: “To create a unique public/private partnership among HART and the governments of McIntosh County and the City of Darien, with the goals of building an animal shelter and creating a humane animal control program at the grassroots level.”
Fast forward 20+ years and HART’s mission remains the foundation of their work. HART’s vision has expanded well beyond helping to build an animal shelter, McIntosh County Animal Services (MCAS), whose doors opened on August 17, 2005. On October 1, 2012, HART assumed management of MCAS and in less than one year, transitioned t from a high-kill pound to a highly-humane shelter that can document a 90-98% Live Release Rate every consecutive month. In order to maintain this momentum, HART needs the continuing support of our local governing officials and our community.
